The Newfoundland Independent Filmmakers Co-operative (NIFCO) currently has two DDP systems: a larger 60-bay chassis with a 16-bay head for video, and another 16-bay for audio. They run 10GbE as their high-speed connectivity to all systems and can have up to 10 suites going at the same time.
DDP at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards
A DDPmini48D was used at the MTV Europe Music Awards on Sunday night in Bilbao, Spain. United Broadcast Facilities was the Outside Broadcasting partner with 14 trucks, 15 Edit Suites and 22 UHD Cameras!
“This is all working on a fairly big DDP central storage infrastructure, connected with all the EVSs and fifteen edit suites. All the data is available to everyone; every clip/segment can be played out anywhere in the infrastructure.”
- Bolke Burnaby Lautier, Technical Project Manager for United

DDP V5 OS
Heterogeneous DDP cluster
With the new V5 OS, DDPs can be clustered together so that when one system fails, all the data is still available. This technology enables clients and applications to continue their operations without interruption.
All clustered DDPs are able to act as a substitute for the one that failed, ensuring important data is still available. As data replication is carried on in the background, everything remains transparent for the client.
Load balancing across DDPs
DDP V5 OS allows multiple DDPs on the same network to stream (and I/O) data in parallel controlled by one master DDP, which holds the metadata. The master DDP tells all desktops connected to the network where to write, or read the data to and from.
DaVinci Resolve Integration
We are pleased to announce that DDP now fully supports collaborative editing on Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve! Contact us for more details.
V4 DDP OS Update 4.01.013
This mandatory update better handles crashed or disconnected desktop in case high volume of metadata is send.
It can be installed on V4 DDPs only, however if you’re on v4 earlier than 4.00.014a you should contact us first.
Autodesk Flame 2018 / DDP update 2 compatibility
TECHNICAL BULLETIN
When using a DDP volume as a Framestore (/mnt/StorageMedia) for Autodesk Flame, the DL_DISABLE_DIRECT_IO flag is required. This flag is functional in Flame 2018.1 but has been broken in Flame 2018.2. As such, DDP/Flame users should not update to Flame 2018.2. However, Flame users can still use a DDP volume to Read and Write file sequences as soft import in 2018 update 2.
This error has been reported to and confirmed by Autodesk. The DirectIO flag will be fixed in an upcoming flame release.
Don't hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have.
DDP Cluster breaks the boundaries of scale out shared storage solutions
Dynamic Drive Pool by Ardis Technologies presents its scale out heterogeneous DDP Cluster with one namespace at NAB 2017
Arnhem, April 12, 2017: At NAB 2017, the Dutch manufacturer Ardis Technologies will present the new software version of its DDP Ethernet SAN shared storage solutions. With DDP’s heterogeneous scale out cluster, DDP nodes can be “Here, There and Elsewhere” across different geographic locations and within one namespace. Desktop clients have parallel data access to the cluster DDP nodes. With DDP’s Instant Replication feature, a cluster of two DDPs can be used as a real-time Mirror whereby clients write their data simultaneously to both DDPs.
File based SSD caching and load balancing is now expanded so it can be used across multiple nodes within a DDP cluster. Storage (HDDs, SSDs, and DDP Expansion Chassis as well as Standalone DDPs and DDP Head units) can be added or removed on the fly in the back-end without changing the front-end. The shared file system is independent from the locations where the media is stored; in this way media can be moved around (copied, transferred or consolidated), without changes in the directory/folder structure and is transparent to operators.
Individual DDP cluster nodes can be distributed over the network across separate physical and geographic locations while remaining within the DDP cluster. If necessary, a single DDP server can be removed from a cluster, used as a standalone device elsewhere, and after finishing the job rejoin the cluster with all new media being available immediately. Both capacity and bandwidth scales linearly when equally equipped DDPs are added.
DDP Dynamic Drive Pool by Ardis Technologies will exhibit at NAB 2017 in Las Vegas, Booth SL4705.
DDP @ SIM Technology Showcase in Toronto on Jan. 19th
DDP Americas will be showcasing the microDDP configured with SSDs and built-in 10GbE at the 12th Annual SIM Technology Showcase in Toronto, Ontario. This year's event focuses on Virtual Reality and HDR video, which DDP brilliantly enables with its load balanced performance and SSD Caching. Marquise Technologies ICE will be connected to the DDP illustrating this performance for grading workflows. The event takes place on Jan 19th, from 3pm until 7pm. If you are in the Toronto area and want to see a DDP in action, you can register for the event here:
